So here is the update on Rissie's knee. We left Miami early so we could have her looked at thoroughly since this is where our insurance is. After examining her they found she has juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), which is the same thing as juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA) they have just changed the name.
Yesterday was a big day for her. We took her to the rapid treatment unit (RTU) at Primary Children's where she was put under complete anesthisia and after draining her knee of the excess fluid they injected it with a steroid that will stop the cells at the end of her bones (at that joint) from producing too much lubricant thereby reducing the swelling and making it more comfortable for her to move around.
It's been a heartbreak to see her wobble around and sometimes even crawl. On occasion her knee just wouldn't work for her and she would tumble to the ground. :( She is such a brave girl though. It hasn't dampened her spirits at all and she has made due the best she can.

Jon's dad tried to change the fire alarm but with it linked to the security system the fire department was automatically contacted. So after five minutes of obnoxiously loud alarms going off the truck showed up. Oops

2/27/08 Lately L. has been insisting that I call her Cinderella. Sometimes I can hear her upstairs call for CINDERELLA. in a mean "step sister" tone, then in a sweet voice will answer, "I'm coming." She failed to pick up her toys when I asked, so I tried her new name and it worked wonders.
2/29/08 So L. is watching her old favorite and after Dory explains to Marlon that memory loss runs in her family, Lauren says, "It runs in my family too, Dory."

Good luck with all of this arthritis stuff with Rissie. It is so hard to see your kids not be 100%. We missed you at the ward party. Do you have time to hang out? Where is your next adventure with medical school taking you?

Oh what a brave girl! It is amazing how children can adapt to anything that would make an adult run and hide under the covers. Good luck with everything and hopefully it will get under control soon.
